returning home
here's something I wrote on July 3rd:
I’m returning home tomorrow
I’ll be endlessly thankful to see her but sadly,
my eyes can not show it
- - -
They said the spark is gone from my eyes
-- and no wonder
That’s because
I hid my heart in a cushioned box
wrapped the box in brown paper
sealed the wrapping with wax
laid the box in a trunk
took the trunk to the seaside
rowed to the horizon
lowered the trunk to the bottom
returned ashore
and walked home
later, if you stick with me,
I’ll take you to it
and together we’ll dive
to reclaim it from the sea
I promise not to swallow the key
in fact, here, you have the key
just stick with me
I’m returning home tomorrow
I’ll be endlessly thankful to see her but sadly,
my eyes can not show it
- - -
They said the spark is gone from my eyes
-- and no wonder
That’s because
I hid my heart in a cushioned box
wrapped the box in brown paper
sealed the wrapping with wax
laid the box in a trunk
took the trunk to the seaside
rowed to the horizon
lowered the trunk to the bottom
returned ashore
and walked home
later, if you stick with me,
I’ll take you to it
and together we’ll dive
to reclaim it from the sea
I promise not to swallow the key
in fact, here, you have the key
just stick with me
